Oak Forest, Illinois is a Cook County village with a population of nearly 28,000 residents. Situated 24 miles south of downtown Chicago, Oak Forest is a part of Bremen Township. It is mostly surrounded by the Cook County Forest Preserve, and neighboring communities include Tinley Park, Orland Park, and Midlothian. The Oak Forest Metra station located it Cicero and 159th is a popular option for Chicago commuters, and it runs all the way to the La Salle Street Station in the city’s downtown area.

The Cook County Forest Preserve is one of the most popular attractions in the Oak Forest area. This preserve consists of 640 acres that are connected by over 20 miles of trails for hiking and biking. There are great fishing spots in the preserve, and Camp Sullivan is currently being renovated to add new campsites and cabins.

In addition to the forest preserve, there are a couple of other important attractions located in the Village of Oak Forest. The George Dunne National Golf Center is one of the best public golf courses in the area, and it is known for its unique features of bent greens and grass fairways. In addition to the golf course, the Chicago Gaelic Park is located in Oak Park, and this serves as one of the largest Irish Cultural Center in the U.S. This location hosts a variety of Irish heritage festivals in addition to traditional St. Patrick’s Day fun.

Since outdoor recreation is so popular in Oak Forest, keeping a sharp eye on the weather forecast is a must. Summers in this community are usually hot and humid with temperatures often reaching the 90s. Springs and autumn months are generally mild in temperature with low humidity, and then conditions change dramatically during the winter.
